OCCUPY SACRAMENTO!
"It
is
well that the people of the nation do not understand our banking
and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a
revolution before tomorrow morning." -Henry Ford
Despite
several decades in which the gap between rich and poor in the U.S
grew to a gaping chasm, the tortuous workings of the U.S. financial
system remained largely beneath most people's radars. It took the
mortgage crisis of 2008 to draw attention to the role of Wall Street
in their lives - but what to do once you realize? In NYC, protesters
of Wall Street occupied Zuccotti Park, inspiring Occupiers to organize
in other cities around the U.S. In Sacramento, Occupy Sacramento
began to occupy Cesar Chavez Plaza in October and despite over 100
arrests, continues to maintain a presence on the lawn of City Hall
and as an organizing force. We are recording what we see via cartoon
and photograph on the following pages. |

The
Retirement Cartoon:
(2010) Yes, after 37 years at MGH, it is time for the retirement
cartoon - five pages of meandering reflection & tirade on work
and the union. Is there a lesson in it? If so, it is the non-news
that appreciating the people I worked with - whether as co-workers
or fellow union participants - is what made it possible to continue
in my somewhat tedious job . More could be said, but there is a
danger in letting retired persons ramble on without some kind of
limit, so I will let the cartoons handle the rest of the ride. Best
wishes & good luck - Ellen ................................................Page

A
Union Member’s Cartoon: (2009)
Just because I'm no longer a shop steward , don’t think I’m
not paying attention to what happens in our union and in my work site.
However, since the disappointment of SEIU's UHW trusteeship in January
and the brief flurry of hope (dashed) when we thought our open contract
would allow us to vote for NUHW, it's been a time of watch and wait. It's
been a period of lying low, not paying dues in the usual way, not participating
in SEIU events - oh, wait, there weren't any! Well, now it's time to look
at life under trusteeship via cartoon:
