The Clarion Hotel probably didn't expect this when they signed on to be the site of a Union contract bargaining event. As it turned out, a Vigil for a Contract that started in a tent across the street from the hotel at 2 p.m. June 11th lasted until 6 a.m. the next day. All through the night, janitors finished their work shifts and came to participate in the vigil. At 3 a.m. on June 12, members of Local 1877's bargaining committee left the Clarion to advise those holding the vigil that there was no hope of a contract settlement. The vigil lasted until 6 a.m., when members of the Labor, legislative and religious communities shared breakfast with the janitors. Given lack of progress in reaching agreement, a strike vote is the next option.
