Senator
Debora Ortiz presented herself as living proof that the granddaughter
of farm workers could rise to a position of political power. She spoke
movingly in English and Spanish of this transition and of the need

SB 1736. |

The view of "The March for the Governor's Signature"
from the L Street parking garage. Speakers spoke from the north
steps of the Capitol with the crowd of 3000-5000 (various estimates)
crowded before them. The vaqueros (with flags on second sidewalk)
managed to pass easily through the protective barriers that now
surround many government buildings.
