  VETERANS MARCH FOR KERRY

Veterans, military families, and supporters met at Cesar Chavez park on Sunday, October 17th, before marching across downtown Sacramento to the south steps of the State Capitol for a spirited rally in support of Presidential candidate John Kerry.

Nearly 500 people braved damp skies and cold weather to support John Kerry. Korean War Veteran and onetime California Representative Pete McCloskey (center) helped carry the Veterans for Kerry banner. Rally organizer Don Harper is pictured beside Representative McCloskey.

IBEW Local 340 Vice President Greg Larkins was part of Labor's presence at the Veteran's for Kerry rally.

Rally organizer and MC, Don Harper: "We have four states holding the same event today! We are networking with New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York, linking up to show solidarity with John Kerry running for President!

I got a call yesterday from Kerry headquarters in DC-- They wanted to thank us for our participation and for all the grassroots work we have done in California."

This is an East coast - West coast event, which makes it a national event for John Kerry!"

Don is no stranger to veterans affairs-- he is past director of the Sacramento Veterans Resource Center, past director of Public Policy of Vietnam Veterans of California, and the founder of the annual Sacramento "Stand Down" event.
