The
Fourth Annual "Salute to Labor" Awards Dinner given by the
Sacramento Central Labor Council on October 23rd saluted Union Ambassador
Steve Smith, gave a Lifetime Achievement Award to Jim Murphy (Ironworkers
Local 118), AND presented our own Local 250 Healthcare Workers Union
with an "Excellence in Organizing" award. More than 4,000
healthcare workers in the Sacramento area were "organized"
by Local 250 in the last year, and now they are us, or we are them,
or some combination of the above....Anyway, we at Mercy Hospitals
Sacramento are a result of the "spirit and persistence"
they exhibited in our enlistment and I hope this is the beginning
of a great new era for healthcare providers and everyone that strives
for justice and excellence in the workplace. |

Here
everyone is at the Radisson Hotel, mingling before the "Salute
to Labor" event. Do I know all these people? No, I don't, and
that is why many of these captions will not specify who is pictured.
You should think of them all as persons who have worked hard for Unions
and the people in them, and who are here to celebrate both. |

Union
members..... |

OK, I DO know some of these people. Sharon Martinez (left) and
Lydia Bone (next to Sharon) were on Union leave to participate in
election-related events. They worked hard and deserve to be celebrated!
