The nuts and bolts: To file a grievance,
you fill out a union grievance form, stating who is filing, what the issue
is, what aspect of the contract is being violated, and what solution you
would like to see. You may request information of the employer, such as
records, copies of rules, etc. The shop steward keeps a copy and gives a
copy to your manager and a copy to the union field representative. Then
you wait 15 days, by which time the employer is expected to respond with
a request for a meeting. If this does not occur, the grievance is kicked
up to the next step, arbitration by an arbitrator agreed upon by both parties.
